Apostle Paul Story Saul of Tarsus |
The story of the Apostle Paul
His name was Saul and later changed to Paul the apostle. Saul was from Tarsus. He was a Pharisee, a priest in Jerusalem with a lot of authority. Saul, and other Pharisees, did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah. The Pharisees thought that those Jews who did believe were blasphemous and dangerous. Saul of Tarsus sought out to find, punish or kill those Jews who believed. On the road to Damascus, Saul had an experience that changed his belief. Saul was toppled off his horse and a bright light blinded him. The risen Jesus spoke to Saul. Saul learns that he has been punishing the Christians wrongly, and that Jesus was the true Messiah who has risen from the dead. Later, God restores his sight and reveals to him the Gospel, "that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day" He now is known as Paul, the apostle. Paul's mission is to spread Christ's gospel of salvation to Gentiles. Paul suffered many trials and tribulations including beatings, stoning, imprisonments, and shipwrecks during his nearly 30 year ministry to the Gentiles. He felt that he deserved to suffer these things because of his persecution of the Jewish believers as Saul. Apostle Paul Bible verses - Faith, Belief and Salvation |
